Hashtags Can May Your Job Search More Efficient

Job searching online can b a laborious task if you are scrolling all the jobs available.  It is far more efficient to pare down your search to jobs that fit your goals, your targeted job titles or companies, even locations.  Hashtags are a great way of filtering what you see and the most recently posted opportunities.

A hashtag, or pound sign (#), is used in front of the specific filter to limit the search results on social media sites such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. It is a way to group messages with a common theme. When you click on a hashtag or search using a hashtag, you can see all the posts on that platform that have included that hashtag.

As Alison Doyle mentions in “How Hashtags Can Help Your Job Search”, using hashtags in a creative and thoughtful way can give your job search a boost. The hashtags do not have spaces and are often common phrases.  Search social media sites with #nowhiring, #hiringnow or #hirefriday to learn of jobs posted recently.

If you are targeting a company, use the business name in the hashtag (ie: #Workday, #AlamedaCounty).  You can search for job titles (ie: #ProjectManager) or locations (#SanFrancisco).  By following certain hashtags, you can also join the conversation related to your expertise and connect with people in your field.

Hashtags are useful tool for your job search, networking and sharing your experiences.  They will easily make your search more efficient and enjoyable.  #trivalleyjobs
